What Causes Periodontal Disease?

Without cat and dog teeth cleaning, plaque and tartar will continue to build up on your pet’s teeth, causing gingivitis (swollen gums) and halitosis (bad breath). As the tartar spreads under the gum line, it releases bacteria that infect the surrounding gum tissue and attack the tooth roots. This can result in:

Gum recession
Loose/broken/decayed teeth
Tooth and/or bone loss
Infected heart, liver, or kidneys (if bacteria enters the bloodstream)

Decreased appetite, excessive drooling, and difficulty eating are just a few signs that your pet has a dental problem. If you observe any of these issues, please call us at (217) 525-9556.

Detailed dental charting
Surgical extractions for teeth that are badly damaged and/or infected
